Powell-Cotton

The family and I spent Saturday afternoon at the Powell-Cotton museum at Quex. Although I've visited several times before I am still impressed with the exhibits and educational aspect of the place. It leaves me feeling a combination of wonderment for the beauty of the beasts behind the glass and dismay that people could kill them for "trophies" (although Powell-Cotton did advance  knowledge and understanding through his hunting). Powell-Cotton also brought back fascinating tales and artefacts from his interactions with the indigenous populations of Africa and India in the 19th and 20th centuries, all of which are on display.

If you haven't visited the museum I strongly advise you to go. Lovely, friendly and knowledgable people work there and there are good tea and cake facilities.

Beth and Emily seemed to enjoy themselves in the newly-opened sensory and research area in gallery 6 - they spent best part of an hour banging bongos, drawing and putting items under the microscopes. Oh, and stoking stuffed badgers.

Brussel Soup - Debrief

The last batch of brussels and cabbage soup is currently being consumed. It definitely seems tastier than the freshly cooked batch. Fortunately the accompanying flactulence seems to have diminished too.

As Parkes didn't quite go for this soup I've decided to blow her mind later this week with a spicy sweet potato soupy offering.

Farage

We received our first front door visit from UKIP's campaigners yesterday afternoon. Fortunately Parkes was rapid with the "No thanks" retort and shut the door quickly. UKIP have started the campaign nice and early to try to secure Farage's passage to Parliament. After all, in an election where UKIP look certain to bag a good handful of seats, having their leader looking on from the sidelines wouldn't be good (hahahahahaha yes it would!).

Meanwhile, in family-land, Emily has a thick cold and Beth's feet keep on growing. The next size she moves to will be an adult size. Definitely going to get her into basketball.

Brussel Sprout and Cabbage Soup

Made brussel sprout and cabbage soup today. I can see why it isn't made too often.

Welcome to 2015

It's cold and dark but already the nights are getting lighter. January is moving along nicely and will hopefully pass sooner rather than later. At home the girls are healthy and the parent are both working hard.

Have visited the Ramsgate Tunnels on the past two weekend. It's packed with historical interest and well worth a visit.
